What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, also known as CBT, is a talking-based therapy, recommended to help sufferers of anxiety, depression, and other mental and physical health issues manage their feelings, thoughts and behaviour. It's the process of exploring thoughts, behaviours and emotions, putting in place practical tools and techniques that help whilst challenging unhelpful thinking patterns that can lead to uncomfortable symptoms of mental health issues.
How does Cognitive Behavioural Therapy work?
A CBT therapist will work with their client by helping them to understand the connections between their thoughts, emotions and behaviour. It involves setting personal goals for therapy and then working with the therapist to achieve them using practical tools and techniques to manage symptoms and challenge negative thinking patterns.
What can CBT help with?
Some of the mental health issues CBT can help with include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self-Esteem Issue
- Phobias
